Anthropogenic Black Carbon and Ozone Precursors Emission over India
Details
Climate change has become a pressing global issue in recent time because of rapid increase in anthropogenic emission of green house gases (GHGs). The advent of industrial era is escorted by the increase in anthropogenic activities and production of energy is always associated with the release of GHGs and carbonaceous particles like black carbon (BC) which acts as a GHGs. Ozone in the troposphere has been a subject of interest for the scientific community due to its climatic implications as it acts as GHG. The Indian tropical region is also vulnerable to emission of several pollutants including ozone precursors. Sectors which contribute to the emission of above pollutants are anthropogenic sources like fossil and bio-fuel burning. Therefore, for understanding the distribution of tropospheric ozone scenario over Indian geographical region, development of emission inventories of its ozone precursors is essential for both scientific purposes as well as for mitigation and control measures. For scientific purposes, emission inventories are a critical input in 3D chemical transport model (CTM) for a realistic estimation of the level of air pollutants in the atmosphere.
