Antioxidants in Periodontics

Currently there has been an increased interest globally to identify antioxidant compounds from plant sources which are pharmacologically potent and have low or no side effects for use in protective medicine and in the food industry. OS lies at the heart of the periodontal tissue damage that results from host microbial interaction, either as a direct result of excess ROS activity/ antioxidant deficiency or indirectly as a result of the activation redox-sensitive transcription factor and the creation of a pro-inflammatory state.
