It is found from all of Europe to Yakutia, Transbaikalia, Mongolia, Lebanon and China (Shaanxi). It is also found in north-western Africa.The wingspan is 35 40 mm. Adults are on wing from June to July.The larvae feed on the flowers and leaves of various grasses, including Poa annua and Dactylis glomerata species. A moth is an insect closely related to the butterfly, both being of the order Lepidoptera. Moths form the majority of this order; there are thought to be 150,000 to 250,000 different species of moth (about ten times the number of species of butterfly), with thousands of species yet to be described
