APICAL SCOUTING AND GAUGING

The basic aim of the successful endodontic therapy is to provide micro-organism free environment and hermetic seal to prevent entry of microorganisms and other irritants in the root canal. In order to achieve these objectives, it is required to accurately determine the endodontic working length (WL) and working width (WW) of each root canal. The main goal of root canal treatment is to disinfect and rid the canal of as much debris as possible. So determining the final apical preparation size is critical. Thus apical gauging should be given its due importance and taken into consideration during biomechanical preparation.
