Applied Behaviour Analysis and Autism Spectrum Disorder
Details
Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is a neurodevelopmental disorder that affects around 70 million people worldwide, with symptoms characterised by behavioural and qualitative manifestations related to difficulties in communication and social interaction, as well as repetitive and stereotyped behaviour patterns. Effective intervention in cases of ASD makes it possible to reduce inappropriate behaviour and minimise damage to areas of development. Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA) has been one of the most researched and widely adopted intervention methods, especially in the United States and Canada, which has been successful in its attempts to reduce ASD symptoms and promote a variety of social skills, communication and adaptive behaviours. Based on this assumption, this manuscript presents a study that aimed to evaluate the applicability of the ABA method as a behavioural intervention method in the care of autistic children.
