Aquaornithomorphic images in Komi culture

The Komi (Zyryans) are part of the group of peoples speaking languages of the Uralic (Finno-Ugric-Samoyedic) family of languages. The richest and diverse cultural and mythological traditions of this people, preserving the most ancient common Uralic substrate and their own unique features, represent the most valuable material for scientific understanding. This paper reveals the symbolic, semantic and functional content of aqua-ornithomorphic images (images of waterfowl). In this work aqua-ornithomorphic image is understood as a cultural symbol, reflecting the worldview of the Komi people (Zyrjans), as well as the embodiment of the image of a real waterfowl. In the work the main ways of embodiment of aqua-ornithomorphic images in the ancient and traditional applied art of the Komi people are collected, described and classified, as well as the symbolism of waterfowl in mythology, folklore, rituals of the Komi people (Zyrjans) is examined for the first time. The book will be of interest both to specialists in archeology, ethnography and culturology, as well as to all those interested in the mythology, art and traditions of the Finno-Ugric peoples.
