This research presents independent academic analysis of the situation with arbitrary detentions in Belarus during the period from December 1, 2010 to December 1, 2011 in correlation with international human rights standards. The issue of arbitrary detentions is burning nowadays in all parts of the world. Belarus topped the news during the last years. The main aim of this research was to make clear academic decision on fulfillment international standards, precisely article 9 of the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights, on the issue of detentions and arrests in Belarus. The judgment on fulfillment of each international standard on detention in Belarus are made in accordance with international human rights standards on detentions and arrests - the Universal Declaration on Human Rights, the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights, and the Body Principles for the Protection of All Persons under Any Form of Detention or Imprisonment and domestic legislation.

Volha Damarad serves as a board member of European Bureau for Conscientious Objection. From April 2012 Volha is one of the editors of Lawtrend Monitor Magazine, the first legal magazine about human rights in Belarus. Ms. Damarad received a master degree in public international law and human rights from Riga Graduate School of Law (Riga, Latvia).
