Art History and Criticism

Art history is the study of objects considered within their period and time. Art historians in their capacity study and analyze the visual arts like painting, sculpture, graphics, architecture and others at the time they were created. In art history, students study the art and architecture of cultures around the world and across the millennia. A lot of approaches can be employed to study objects of art, but the main focus of this book will be on aesthetic and historical significance as well as social relevance. Studying art history provides students with an opportunity to develop essential skills and talents that tie into the liberal arts education, which include informal and critical reading, writing and speaking.Art history study includes data on meaning behind the visual art and our readiness to understand the world that is largely presented to us as visual information. Art history provides a means by which we can understand our human past and its relationship to our present, and in general terms is the study of our rich and fundamental Strand of human and cultural history. It is therefore, the study of art from all over the world, from different periods and places.
