Artificial Intelligence in Education

Humankind has always sought to employ technology to help automate and accomplish time- and labor-consuming tasks they have traditionally performed. From the earliest mechanical devices to the latest internet-based software, people have enthusiastically adopted labor-saving technology, whether in the form of machinery to automate manual labor or the latest in higher level technology that facilitates the interrogation of large amounts of data to help guide decision-making, people have become increasingly reliant on equipment that will remove the necessity to become bogged down in the minutia, instead freeing them to pursue higher level tasks that will help them to enhance their competitive advantage. Each advance in technology has been accompanied by those who have decried its introduction, claiming that it cedes human control from the processes of which they should be in command. Others, however, acclaim the arrival of new technologies, suggesting that they will emancipate people from the detail and the requirement to manually undertake tasks that can be done more quickly and easily by technology, freeing them to undertake the higher-order tasks that will enhance their productivity.
