Arya Samaj and Contemporary Communities in Punjab

The book is a preliminary attempt to go the roots of communal tension which is still there in the Punjab. Besides belonging to the past history, the roots are also concerned with ideology, classes and cultural adjustment to the west. We can understand the dilemma of society and concomitant tension in the context of what happened during the late nineteenth century Punjab.The cultural adjustment of the Indians to the west appears to be ambivalent. On the one hand it projects the idea of human equality nationalism and liberal institutions. On the other hand, it led to separatist politics and fanatical revivalism.
