Assessment of Community Participation on ISWM

Jahangirnagar University is Bangladesh's first residential university. Each student lives in one of the university's residence halls. Despite having an appropriate solid waste management strategy, solid waste management is still critical in formal settlements. It has a detrimental social and economic impact on them. This study was conducted in Jahangirnagar University to assess integrated solid waste management system. The findings demonstrate that, for a variety of reasons, Jahangirnagar University has yet to attain meaningful ISWM (Integrated Solid Waste Management). The first issue was a lack of appropriate community empowerment as well as adequate mobilization, organization and coordination of local resources. According to the findings, the university administration lacked commitment to putting the strategy into practice that causes ineffective integration in solid waste management as well. This research also identifies issues and develops guidelines and recommendations to enhance integrated solid waste management in the study area.
