Hawassa is a city in southern Ethiopia which has the highest urban population growth rate in the Country. This rapid growth is attributed to the City's scenic natural surrounding,warm and comfortable temperature throughout the year, hospitable residents, a melting pot of different ethic groups from all over Ethiopia, the capital of a region which houses 56 of the 80 linguistic and cultural groups of Ethiopia, one of few centers selected for investment in Ethiopia,so many high quality recreational facilities and hotels, In short Hawassa is a tourist heaven, a reliable adobe for investors, a home for anyone who wants to live in it. This book is about how this qualities of Hawassa can be sustained. It is how a policy that is meant to maintain what it already has and give it much more is not living up to expectations. The book gives you in detail what is transpiring inside Hawassa in terms of physical expansion, governance, service provision, land allocation, housing, and employment opportunities, which seem to be degrading it to the determent of what Hawassa lives and thrives with: tourism and investment. Mulu Getahun has BA degree in Geography, another bachelorate in IT, and MA in governance specializing in urban planning. He has served in Hawassa City administration as advisor in the mayor's office for many years. He is currently chief of the IT department in the Bureau of Urban Development in the South Ethiopia Regional State administration.
