Assessment of KAP of primary healthcare workers towards mental illness
Details
The treatment gap for mental, neurological and substance use (MNS) disorders is high in low and middle income countries, where over 75% of people with mental, neurological and substance use disorders receive no treatment or care at all. The main strategy to narrow this treatment gap is through integration of mental health care into primary healthcare. An important first step in the delivery of integrated care is to evaluate the attitude and capacity of primary healthcare workers. In this study encouraging proportion of primary care staff have favorable attitude towards mental illness and good knowledge. Improving training in basic mental health and managing the work load may positively impact the integration of mental health services into primary healthcare in Ethiopia. So, this information is helpful for other similar settings to integrate mental health services in primary health care settings.
