Assessment of Poverty on Housing Quality in Urban Area

This project has examined poverty on housing quality in Iyana Iyesi community. The objectives of this study are to examine the types of housing available in terms of building materials used in Iyana Iyesi which is the scope of this study, to examine the quality of housing in Iyana Iyesi, to examine the quality of facilities in these houses, to examine the socio-economic characteristics of residents in this area and to examine the existing housing conditions (physical structure of building) in the study area. Data were collected from both primary and secondary sources; primary data was collected using in-depth interview and secondary data was collected from books, journals, report, magazines, libraries, government offices and World Wide Web. Systematic random sampling was the sampling technique that was adopted which involves the administration of questionnaires. The findings revealed that there is poor housing condition, poor availability of infrastructural facilities, poor level of housing environment and poor socio-economic characteristics of the respondents. The following recommendations are made. There is need for poverty alleviation programmes.
