Atherosclerosis
Details
This book covers all aspects of atherosclerosis from human pathology to experimental studies, from basic science to clinical applications. It comprises 20 chapters including human pathology of human atherosclerosis, cellular biology of atherosclerosis (endothelial cells, smooth muscle cells, monocyte/macrophages, dendritic cells and so on), molecular biology of lipid metabolism and hyperlipidemia, pathophysiology of acute coronary syndrome, plaque vulnerability and plaque rupture, aortic aneurysms, peripheral atherosclerosis. The chapters begin with the history of atherosclerosis followed by different hypotheses regarding atherosclerosis. Through these introductions, readers can learn the state-of-the-art information from human pathological observations to basic research, from experimental animal studies to clinical practice. The book includes more than 100 color pictures along with schematic illustrations. An effort has been made to show real pathological observations with clinical implications side by side. This book not only helps researchers and clinicians understand the molecular basis of atherosclerosis, but also guides them to explore the unknown questions based on the experience of the authors. It also serves as a useful reference for medical students interested in learning about cardiovascular diseases or those planning to participate in atherosclerosis research.
Provides the latest insights into the pathology, pathogenesis and clinical implications of atherosclerosis Helps cardiologists, pathologists and scientists understand the pathological basis and pathogenesis of atherosclerosis Includes over 100 color illustrations for easy understanding

Teruo Watanabe graduated from Kyushu University and used to be a full Professor and Chair at Department of Pathology, Saga University and Tsukuba University. He is now an Emeritus Professor of Saga University and Chairman of Division of Laboratory Medicine and Pathology, Fukuoka Wajiro Hospital. He has been working on atherosclerosis for 40 years and published more than 300 papers. His research interests include vascular pathology, renal pathology and experimental pathology. He was awarded as Ohshima Atherosclerosis Award in 2007.
Jianglin Fan is Professor and Chairman of Molecular Pathology at University of Yamanashi School of Medicine, Yamanashi, Japan. He is also a Distinguished Professor of Wuyi University. He has been working on atherosclerosis for more than 30 years, including elucidation of the molecular mechanisms of atherosclerosis, lipid and lipoprotein metabolism, and inflammation. One of his major achievements was to develop numerous transgenic and knockout rabbit models for the study of cardiovascular disease. His work has led to more than 240 publications in prestigious peer-review journals. Dr. Fan is Chairman of Pathology council of Japan Atherosclerosis Society and President of Japan Rabbit Science Association. He was awarded as Japan Pathology Award in 2021 and Japan Atherosclerosis Award in 2023.
