Attendance in the National Hockey League

After the lock-out in the National Hockey League attendance started to increase. This thesis looks at game factors that may impact attendance in the NHL. Some factors that are looked at include: goals scored, assists, major and minor penalties,all- stars, and if the team has made the play-offs the previous years. After running regressions on the data collected, the results conclude that some game factors do affect attendance. The results also show that some factors now negatively affect attendance whereas before the lock-out they positively affected attendance.

While growing up in Illinois I was constantly exposed to hokcey. My father, a goaltender for the Chicago Blackhawks, passed on his love of the game to me. I attended Colorado College playing Division one soccer and pursued a degree in business and Economics where I wrote my thesis on Attendance in the NHL.
