Autobiographical and biographical portrayal of Nelson Mandela

Nelson Mandela is famous not only in Africa but in the whole world. During his twenty seven year imprisonement he acquired a mythical status and different images emerged especially from songs that were composed about him at the time calling for his release. To the South African government of the time he was a dangerous terrorist out to overthrow the government and to the Black people, he was viewed as the messiah. This book brings out the image of Mandela that emerges from his autobiography Long Walk to Freedom and from Winnie Mandela s, Part of My Soul thereby comparing Mandela s portrayal of himself with his portrayal by Winnie.
