Automatic Yarn Characterization System
Details
Yarns evaluation has a major importance to Textile Industry, as the fabric quality depends directly on the yarn quality. This work presents an innovative, low cost, portable and high-precision evaluation tester, entitled YSQ (Yarn System Quality), for quality control of yarn characteristics under laboratory conditions. It presents a modular format, which can integrate yarn hairiness, mass, regularity and diameter measurements. The hairiness and diameter variation (sampling resolution length of 1 mm), is carried out using photodiodes; the diameter characterization, based on samples with of 0.5 mm width, uses a linear photodiode array; the mass variation, based on samples of 1 mm, employ a parallel plates capacitive sensor. An external module, non commercial available, for the determination of yarn production characteristics based on image acquisition and processing is presented. The YSQ introduces new statistical parameters and signal processing approaches, establishing a reliable method of yarn characterization. This work can be useful for students, researchers and professionals in the area of instrumentation applied to the Textile Industry.
