Avian Diversity of Ponkunnu Hills, Kakkur: A Comprehensive Study

The objective of this study is to collect monthly wise year around data about the bird diversity in the study area along with the habitat and behaviour of the raptor species observed and the plant diversity of the area along the sides of the line transect. Birds offer the best potential for providing biodiversity indicators. They are pivotal players in ecosystem dynamics, and serve as barometers of the health of the ecosystem, pristine and altered (Gill,2006). The study will ultimately help in the management, protection and conservation of the area and the avian as well as other biological diversity inhabiting in the area.
