Ayurveda as a Complementary System of Healing

According to Shinnick and Porter (2017), Cancer and other chronic diseases damage is not limited to physical but impact mental wellbeing. As affected people stop taking medicine due to depression of dying or pain. This creates mental imbalance, resulting in a variety of symptoms such as hyperactivity, drowsiness, and depression. The spiritual aspects presented by Ayurveda which are referred to as tamasic believe that individual wellbeing is relied over physical needs and mental needs equally, thus both physical and mental needs should be fulfilled adequately to live healthy life. During development of chronic disease such as cancer, Tamas and Kapha (internal and external) can help each other to recover. Psychotherapy is a significant aspect of Ayurvedic treatment, because health is the result of a harmonious combination of physical, mental, and emotional factors. If radiotherapy or chemotherapy are the only options, the body will be exhausted. There are several Ayurveda treatments that can assist the body in this process; to preserve strength, individual need all the energy that can muster during the recovery process.
