Ayurvedic Aspect of Osteoporosis

This research reveals the fundamental Ayurvedic concepts associated with the disease osteoporosis. Osteoporosis is caused by the disruption in the equilibrium between bone formation and bone resorption, according to modern science. Although there is no direct reference to osteoporosis in Ayurved samhita, but the clinical features of Majjakshaya(depletion of marrow) are strikingly similar to those of osteoporosis. According to Ayurveda, Majja (marrow) is one of the Seven Dhatus (tissues) of the body that is responsible for bone health maintenance. Its Kshaya (decrease) can be detrimental for bone health. So in this book, an attempt is made to study osteoporosis in the purview of Majjakshaya.
