Barack Hussein Obama II - born in Honolulu, Hawaii in 1961 - was the 44th President of the United States and was also the first African-American to hold office. He was a fellow law graduate from Columbia University and Harvard Law School and worked as civil rights attorney in Chicago. He also served three terms in the Illinois Senate from 1997 to 2004 before becoming Senator in 2005 until his election as president in 2008.
