Basic knowledge of sports policy

The EURO 2024 will be accompanied by political issues in the media and the public. Similar tendencies can be observed in winter sports. Competition between liberal democracies and autocratic systems with the aim of international prestige is nothing new. Major sporting events and sport have great symbolic power. Sport has a political dimension. A distinction must be made between two dimensions of sport policy: the use of sport for political interests and the promotion and organization of sport. Sport in general plays a role in society, as a component of cultural life in popular sport, elite sport, public sport, health sport and as a leisure activity.
