Basics in Electrochemistry & Surface Chemistry

Electrochemistry is the study of production of electricity from energy released during spontaneous chemical reactions and the use of electrical energy to bring about non-spontaneous chemical transformations. The study of electrochemistry is important for creating new technologies that are ecofriendly. Electrochemistry, is therefore, a very vast and interdisciplinary subject. In this book, we will cover only basics few of its important elementary aspects of Electrochemistry. Surface Chemistry is the study of the chemical phenomena that occur at the interface of two surfaces which can be solid-liquid, solid-gas, solid-vacuum, liquid-gas, etc. Some applications of surface chemistry are known as surface engineering. There are various phenomena taking place on the surface of substances some important features of surface chemistry such as adsorption, catalysis, colloids including emulsions and gels. The subject of surface chemistry finds many applications in industry, analytical work and our daily life.
