The Battle of Dürenstein was an engagement in the Napoleonic Wars during the War of the Third Coalition. Dürenstein is located in the Wachau Valley, on the River Danube, 73 kilometers upstream from Vienna, in Austria. The battle was fought on 11 November 1805, three weeks after the Battle of Ulm, in which most of the Austrian Army surrendered, and three weeks before the Battle of Austerlitz, at which the rest of the Austrian army surrendered. French troops were trapped in a valley between two Russian columns, and were only rescued after nightfall by the arrival of an additional French force.
