This book gives a detailed knowledge to assess the genetic variability of the Bauhinia species and to establish the genetic relationships between them. It is seen that very less description and nomenclature of the genus Bauhinia available around the world. This genus is a wealth of our nation and carries horticultural importance in commercialization of the ornamental crop and crop improvement program. The plant genetic resource is one of the most valuable assets available to the mankind. Protection and conservation of these resources is of great important for the future generation. Therefore characterization of the germplasm of every crop is an important component for efficient management of plant genetic resource as well as their utilization. Moreover the breeder could select molecular markers that are tightly linked to a specific gene for identifying genotypes carrying that trait. Unfortunately the information pertaining to molecular assisted breeding is limited in Bauhinia and there is an urgent need to develop genetic characterization of different species in Bauhinia for further research and selection.
