The aim of this work is to present a theoretical reference on some conventional and unconventional techniques when it comes to bearing maintenance, based on materials science and machine elements. The study of these techniques was carried out with an emphasis on the main process parameters, such as: lubrication, ultrasound, vibrations, signal processing, mechanical properties and the microstructure of cast iron. Bearing in mind the constant advances for application in rotating machinery.
