Bernini s Studio: A Study in Attribution
Details
Bernini's Studio: A Study in Attribution, Collaboration and Interpretation looks at Gian Lorenzo Bernini's studio practice with regard to three specific commissions: the Apollo and Daphne; the Baldachin in St. Peters; and the angels along the Ponte St. Angelo. The case studies are taken from across Bernini's oeuvre and together they support the idea of Bernini as capo maestro. Art is about conception, much more than execution. Thus, despite having studio help, Bernini remains the rightful author of all three projects. While being specifically concerned with the career of Gian Lorenzo Bernini, the book addresses wider problems associated with the work of studio artists: authorship, authenticity and attribution.
