Beyond the Executive Amnesty

Niger Delta region, the hearthbeat of Nigeria's political economy has been identified as one of the trouble spots in the world.The violence has taken terror dimension. Kidnapping, hostage taking, assassinations, bombing and sea piracy have been synonymous with Niger delta region.The conflict has not only threatened the corporate existence of Nigeria infact it has had an international dimension and the legitimacy of the Nigerian state has suffered serious corrosion.Consequently successive Nigerian governments have designed policies to address the Niger Delta conundrum. One of such policy measures is the introduction of amnesty programme by the Umaru Musa Yar'Adua's administration. This monograph examines the Amnesty deal of Late Umaru Musa Yar'adua. The monograph will serve as a compendium for scholars, administrators, human rights activists and organisations that are interested in the Niger Delta Region particularly the Amnesty Programme.
