Bibliometrics: An Effective Tool for LIS

The purpose of the present study is to identify the characteristics of literature used by research scholars in the field of Library and Information Science and its sub disciplines. The references appended to theses submitted to Nine Universities in Maharashtra State i.e. Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Marathawada University, Aurangabad, North Maharashtra University, Jalgaon, Rashtra Sant Tukadoji Maharaj University, Nagpur, Sant Gadge Baba Amravati University,Amravati, Shivaji University, Kolhapur, SNDT Women's University Mumbai,Swami Ramanand Teertha Marathawada University, Nanded, University of Mumbai, University of Pune, were analysed using citation analysis. One Hundred and Thirty Eight theses were awarded in the field of Library & Information Science during 1986-2010 by all Universities in Maharashtra state put together. The citations cited in 138 theses of Nine Universities form the basis for the present study. Journals, Books, Editorial Works, Conference Proceedings,Reference Books, Thesis, Dissertations, Acts, Bills, Newspapers, Reports,Standards, and Unpublished are different forms cited by the research scholars.
