Bicycle parking in stations: the challenge of governance
Details
Since the beginning of the health crisis, cycling mobility has taken an unexpected turn among users with a consequent increase in cycling. Thus, public institutions have taken the subject in hand through the implementation of various public policies, while a whole system of actors is coordinating and acting to encourage cycling. Cycling is seen as a cross-cutting solution to many urban issues. In order to encourage it, various actions and services are deployed, as the bicycle system is extensive. Bicycle parking in intermodality with public transport is one solution to encourage this practice. The Netherlands, the king of cycling and intermodality, is inspiring many regions to develop the same system, including Île-de-France. The role and coordination of each of the actors working on the subject of intermodal bicycle parking is complex. This requires a commitment to understanding the role of governance in the implementation of bicycle parking facilities in stations to encourage cycling.
