Big Data is a new concept that is set to revolutionise the relationship between organisations/companies and their consumers. The production of data by society is increasing at exponential levels, currently reaching a zettabyte of data produced every day, the vast majority through emails, social networks - such as Twitter, Facebook, Linkedin - through the Global Positioning System (GPS) of millions of mobile phones and the Internet of Things, in which machines are connected to the Net producing thousands of bytes of data every second. Analysing, cross-referencing and producing information from unstructured data, which comes in huge volumes, at real time speed and in a variety of formats, is no easy task, but some organisations/companies are already venturing into the Big Data universe to better understand their customers.
