Bioprocess Engineering involves the design and development of equipment and processes for the manufacturing of products such as food, feed, pharmaceuticals, nutraceuticals, chemicals, and polymers and paper from biological materials. It also deals with studying various biotechnological processes. Shijie Liu, Professor of Paper and Bioprocess Engineering at State University of New York - College of Environmental Science and Forestry (SUNY ESF) (http://www.esf.edu/pbe/people/liu). Editor-In-Chief, Journal of Bioprocess Engineering and Biorefinery ( http://www.aspbs.com/jbeb). Teaching and research experience falls in the areas of chemical reaction engineering, bioreaction engineering, bioprocess engineering, transport phenomena, and renewable energy. He received a BSc in Chemical Engineering from Chengdu University of Science and Technology (now Sichuan University), Chengdu, China, in 1982, and earned a PhD in Chemical Engineering from the University of Alberta, Edmonton, Canada, in 1992.
