Black Humour: A Stylistic Approach

Could you ever find humour in death or other tragic situations? This book intends to demonstrate how characters, in literature and theatre, find resilience in humour and have the power to laugh at even the darkest situations as long as they are able to see the bright side of darkness. Gulliver, Yossarian, Billy Pilgrim, Vladimir, Estragon, Winnie and Willie, Martha and George epitomize, both linguistically and symbolically, the humour that has always existed in tragedy.

Iulia Veronica Neagu is a junior lecturer at the Department of English Language and Literature. She was awarded the doctor's degree in English stylistics in 2012 for the PhD dissertation Black Humour: A Stylistic Approach. She is conducting research on linguistic stylistics and black humour and she has published a number of articles in the field.
