Boron Addition to Titanium Alloys: Microstructure & Texture Evolution

In the present book, the evolution of microstructure and crystallographic texture has been characterized in the cast condition and during various processing stages for the boron modified alloy Ti-6Al-4V-0.1B vis-à-vis the control alloy Ti-6Al-4V. At every condition, a comprehensive understanding of the micro-mechanisms was developed. This book is the first ever attempt to deal with important aspects of microstructure formation in boron modified Titanium alloys from an orientation perspective. This alloy system has shown tremendous potential over the years; however, little is known about the complete processing-microstructure-property scenario. I hope that this book, which is one of the first scientific documentation on this orientation dependent microstructure formation aspect, will be a valued addition to the existing knowledge in this field. This study presents novel insights that will help the community in designing better processing strategies to produce tailored microstructure for optimized property and performance of boron modified Titanium alloys.

Dr. Shibayan Roy is working as Assistant Professor in Materials Science Center of Indian Institute of Technology IIT-Kharagpur from November 2015. Dr. Roy has obtained his PhD degree from the Department of Materials Engineering, Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bangalore on November, 2011.
