Bovine fluorosis in Central East India
Details
Livestock sharing man's environment are exposed to an array of toxic pollutants, which may be hazardous to their health and production. Fluorine is one of the prime concern among these. The quantum of literature on endemic fluorosis in animal from different country is over whelming. In India endemic hydrofluorosis arising due to excess concentration of fluoride in natural water has been recognized in human population in many states. Animals are also affected albeit less severely. This study has been particularly focus on Central East India as this part of the country is still in the developing stage and the lack of awareness and access to the proper health care is rampant. Add to that the large-scale mining and industrial activities taking place in the area had made the situation even more precarious. This book contains research findings of the authors, particularly the prevalence and the adverse effect of fluorosis on the bovines in CEI and its effect on various clinico-haemato-biochemical parameters. Moreover progression of fluorosis and its relationship with species, breed, age and sex of the animal is also presented nicely with some amelioration strategies as well.
