Analysis of neurological infections: Encephalitis, Meningitis, Human immunodeficiency virus, Viral, Fungal, Parasitic, Bacterial infections such as Lyme disease, Tuberculosis, Syphilis, Brain abscess. Viruses reach the brain by bloodstream or peripheral nerves. Diagnosis of infection was done with brain biopsy, now with neuroimaging and analysis of cerebral spinal fluid (CSF) with polymerase chain reaction for DNA viruses, and Reverse Transcriptase for RNA viruses. Viral infections in the brain depend on penetration of the blood brain barrier and release viruses within the brain. Gene silencing with antisense oligonucleotide, complementary to an RNA target.
