Brazilian Art is born in the belly of the challenge: Week of 22

The book deals with the context Brazil experienced in the first two decades of the 20th century, emphasising the developments that led to the art exhibition that took shape in the Modern Art Week of 1922, held from 13 to 18 February at the Municipal Theatre of São Paulo, which exhibited literary, pictorial and sculptural works. It is commendable to recall the context of our country in the period mentioned above and the various situations experienced by Brazilians, from the coffee crisis to the establishment of the Municipal Theatre of São Paulo in 1922, the place and year in which the Modern Art Week took place and on which an extensive avant-garde period would unfold, placing our arts within the characteristics of modern arts. X This event was an emblematic shock to admirers of classical art, as the exhibition was intended to put an end to the academicism that came from Europe, but no matter how hard Brazilian artists tried, they still left characteristics of European 'isms' in their work.
