Brazilian Leadership and the Integration Process in South America

This book analyses the process of South American integration as an attempt to find the role for Brazilian leadership in the region without impinging on other countries sovereignty. Theories of regionalism are used as mechanisms to find challenges faced by integration attempts in South America. The case of MERCOSUL and UNASUL are used as examples of how the Brazilian Foreign Policy should behave to foster integration, which could generate actual development and the elimination of asymmetries within the region.

Renata Muniz is a Brazilian researcher graduated from PUC-Rio in 2006. Since then, she has been following her studies in the field of international relations. Her interest in South American integration is reflected in this work, which is a result of her master's degree attained at the Geneva School of Diplomacy and International Relations.
