Bringing the European citizen closer to the institutions

To overcome the democratic deficit that has been criticized since the creation of the European Union, a "democratic package" comprising two central measures could be put in place quickly and without modification of the EU treaties. This package should place citizens at the center of decisions taken within the EU, strengthen their sense of belonging and the representation of European issues within the Commission. These factors will be decisive in reducing the so-called "democratic deficit" and strengthen the legitimacy of the EU.
