Details

Mastitis is one of the most economically damaging diseases of the dairy industry worldwide. Potent vaccine or true therapeutic measures are unavailable for mastitis till date owing to its diverse etiology. Hence, there is no other alternative than early detection to prevent the disease. Counting of somatic cells and cultural examination are two best way to detect subclinical mastitis (SCM) but they are too cumbersome, to introduce in screening programs. The indirect tests available are also proved unreliable. Thus, the best alternative to diagnose SCM is biochemically. Keeping in view the necessity of the situation the present study was conducted to investigate the udder biochemical profile with special reference to bubaline SCM for its early detection. It was found that there is no single indicator for SCM. SCM being not field adaptable on account of dearth of technological facilities warrants biochemical tests to diagnose it. For this we need to consider array of components which is discussed in this book.
