In the 21st century many organizations can be characterized by their competitive work climate which makes employees and managers more pressured and creates a suitable environment for conflict as well as other negative work behaviors. Bullying is one of the negative work behaviors, which attracts the attention of scholars and practitioners worldwide due to its severe consequences. This book aims to explain the complex nature of bullying behaviors from a different perspective; theory of organizational politics. Thus, after providing an extensive literature review on bullying and organizational politics, their association is examined based on the previous research. In the light of the findings of previous research and theoretical work of different scholars, it can be said that bullying behaviors can be considered as the means/political tactics which are used by the perpetrators for influencing major organizational decision domains, and in turn serving their self interests. Implications of this argument for an effective prevention and intervention strategies are discussed with the aim of guiding managers for overcoming this serious work problem.
Autorentext
Burcu Güneri Çangarli received her Ph.D. in Management from Izmir University of Economics in Turkey with her work on bullying in 2009. During her Ph.D., she published articles, books and book chapters in the field of management. Since 2006, she has been teaching at the Department of Business Administration, Izmir University of Economics.
