Cameos in Linguistics

This is a compilation of research articles encompassing Micro and Macro perspectives on Linguistics. Documentary linguistic research scrutinizes acoustic characteristics of three vowels of Standard Sri Lankan English and the correlation between the variables proficiency in the second language and first language dominancy against bilingual pronunciation. Sociolinguistic research examines the uses of language, the relationship between language, its users and its uses through studies on Interlingual texting and modes of secondary term formation in ICT terminology in Sinhala. Applied Linguistics explorations encompass analyses of literary texts and multiple studies on Teaching English as a Second Language. In essence this book provides an exposure to a South Asian variety of English: Standard Sri Lankan English and its intricate affiliation to the genre of World Engishes.
