Can the Multitude Overcome Empire? considers the potential influence that religion in general is likely to exude during the continued process of globalization. In a response to the works of Michael Hardt and Antonio Negri, Ian McDaniel outlines why it is necessary to consider the power and influence of religion upon any project dealing with global sovereignty, the potential for religions the world over to act as powerful stabilizing forces in the lives of adherents while at the same time acting as powerful divisive forces upon the multitude of people around the world and how a failure to consider the power and influence of religion in general can only result in an incomplete account of the diverse forces at work on the global stage. In the final chapters the author addresses the failure of Hardt and Negri to properly consider the role of religion in their own works and explores the potential consequences for the global revolution and new global sovereignty envisioned by Hardt and Negri as a result of this omission.

Born in Blacksburg, Virginia, Ian earned his Master's Degree in Philosophy from Oklahoma State University in Stillwater, Oklahoma, and dual Bachelor's degrees in Philosophy and Mathematics from Virginia Polytechnic Institute in Blacksburg, Virginia. He is currently pursuing his Doctorate at the University of Kansas in Lawrence, Kansas.
