Candace I

The tragedy of Candace or Kandake, indeed, may surprise. It is about a Queen of Nubia bringing hope to her beleaguered people. Candace is a great heroine of history for whom freedom is a legitimate and supreme gift given to man by fate and preserved by nature. Indomitable spirit, constantly pushed towards revolt, and whose primary ambition is the safeguard of her country, she will force the respect of her adversaries in her military engagements without truce nor concession, showing the most insatiable virtue of the valiant: courage. Unable to accept the occupation of her country by the Roman forces, she engages in fierce struggle and resistance. A fascinating character, Candace is a daring woman, full of sensitivity and intelligence for whom no human fulfillment is possible without freedom.
