Details

This book offers clear, concise guidance, helping clinicians to spot, diagnose and treat valvular heart disease. The five main sections cover Aortic Valve Disease, Mitral Valve Disease, Tricuspid Valve Disease, Pulmonic Valve Disease and Multimodality Imaging.

The book will be written by the experts in the disease including imaging, interventional cardiology and surgical valve expertise. The book has five main sections: Aortic Valve Disease Mitral Valve Disease Tricuspid Valve Disease Pulmonic Valve Disease Multimodality Imaging The main objectives of the book are: 1- to provide the main guidelines to clinicians on how to identify and diagnose valvular heart disease 2- to provide an overview of what the near future will bring in the diagnosis, prevention and risk stratification of patients to catheter versus surgical approaches 3- to outline the possible implications for medical therapies in slowing progression of calcific aortic valve disease and myxomatous mitral valve disease

Contributions from experts specialized in valvular heart diseases Diagnosis and prevention of the disease aided by colour illustrations Provides an overview of what the near future will bring in the diagnosis, prevention and risk stratification of patients to catheter versus surgical approaches Includes supplementary material: sn.pub/extras

Klappentext

Experimental studies in the field of cardiac valve biology are now demonstrating that the cardiac valve disease process is an active biology with risk factors analogous to vascular risk factors. Understanding the risk factors is also evolving rapidly, giving physicians and scientists insight into the cellular mechanisms and raising the possibility of treating these valve lesions with other options besides surgical valve repair. Our knowledge of right-sided valve lesions is also rapidly becoming important in the field of valvular medicine. Not only is the pathology different from left-sided valve lesions, but the hemodynamic compromise is more complex and difficult to treat in patients who develop tricuspid or pulmonic valve disease. Early diagnosis and careful management of this patient population is critical for long term outcomes in this patient population.

Cardiac Valvular Medicine represents an overview of the most recent science, clinical trials and new discoveries in the field of valvular heart disease. The editor has assembled a team of highly experienced contributors to provide a thorough translational understanding of the current and future treatments for this patient population. Cardiologists, internists, family practice physicians, cardiac surgeons and basic scientists will all find enormous benefit from this textbook.
