Cardiovascular targets in patients of Diabetes Mellitus

Diabetes mellitus is the most common endocrine disorder reported. Diabetes mellitus management requires tight control of hyperglycemia, hyperlipidemia and hypertension. Measuring exposure to these factors helps in risk assessment for patients in primary cardiovascular prevention and achievement of preset targets helps in cardiovascular control. A Cross sectional study was performed on three hundred patients of Diabetes mellitus attending inpatient and outpatient departments of services hospital Lahore & Khair-un-Nisa hospital Lahore from June 1st 2014 to December 31st 2014.Three key parameters HbA1c, systolic blood pressure and LDL-C of all patients were recorded. Patients were divided on the basis of above mentioned goals that is HbA1c 7%, Systolic blood pressure 140mmHg and LDL-C 100mg/dl in two groups. Patients achieving all the three goals were compared with no achievers. It was found that large number of patients have poor control of risk factors for cardiovascular disease. This manuscript will benefit the physicians and cardiologist as well as medical students to enhance their knowledge about diabetes mellitus, general complications and CVD in Diabetes mellitus.

I graduated from king Edward Medical college Lahore in 1998.I did my fellowship in medicine in 2004,since then I am working at SIMS in medical department and CCU.I have special interest in cardiology.
