Details

The study reported in this book sets out to explore the career dynamics of information technology (IT) workers in Nigeria. Mainstream career theory has focused more on individual choice and life-span development, than on the complex interplay between individuals and their institutional environment. There appears to be a relative neglect of the influence of institutional context in much of the extant career literature. In a departure from previous career studies, which have focused largely on the individual level of analysis in developed economies of North America and Europe, this study focused on exploring both the internal and external careers of IT workers in the context of a developing country-Nigeria. This book is ideal for all individuals who wish to learn more about career dynamics of highly skilled technical workers in Nigeria and can be used for organisations as a resource for employees seeking career management guidance. This book can also be used as a supplementary text for undergraduate and graduate courses in career management.
