The Mistletoe Borer (Carmenta phoradendri) is a moth of the Sesiidae family. It was described by Engelhardt in 1946. It is known from south-eastern Arizona, Mexico and southern Texas.Adults are on wing in August and September. Larvae feed on Phoradendron tomentosum growing on mesquite (Prosopis glandulosa). A moth is an insect closely related to the butterfly, both being of the order Lepidoptera. Moths form the majority of this order; there are thought to be 150,000 to 250,000 different species of moth (about ten times the number of species of butterfly), with thousands of species yet to be described.
