Details

To explain the relationship between women and sexual harassment at work it will be important to see women s space at work. Are women allowed to take part in every work space? In patriarchal societies like Ethiopia where male dominate social structures the result is women s oppression. Hence women s sphere is the house; the caring and nurturing. Perhaps, such activities these days are institutionalized, professionalized, industrialized and commercialized and become sectors in the paid work where women take the larger share because of the job segregation and the nature of work that is attached to women s gender role which is mistaken for their sex role. Workplace sexual harassment is inevitable to almost every woman. However, workplaces like Hotels, Bars and Cafeterias accompanied by the work nature makes waitresses the most vulnerable to Sexual harassment. This book explores waitresses vulnerability factors to sexual harassment and its effects on their personal and career development. Students and researchers in fields of women and/or gender studies and governmental and non-governmental organizations working on women s right issues will find this work more useful.
